Guided Reading Lessons with Activities
Plans for guided reading lessons with follow-up activities for the children to do in independent sessions. Completing these activities gives the children another opportunity to read the guided reading book and the teacher an opportunity to assess the children's independent reading abilities.
Level Descriptors for Reading
A group reading assessment continuum for assessing pupils' reading in the guided session. It can also be used when assessing reading from work done in independent activities and reading journals. Skills not achieved are then targets for future guided reading lessons. The assessment booklet can follow the children throughout the school.
Marking Writing Bands
Writing criteria listed in bands A, B and C for teachers to assess individual pupils' writing. Teachers highlight the skills the child has achieved in each band and then add up the scores to attain a level. There are marking bands for non-fiction and fiction and these can be used when marking pupils' half termly writing assessment pieces. Skills not achieved are the next half term's targets for improvement. Each child's assessment booklet can follow them throughout the school.
Reading Journals
Information about the benefits of reading journals and how and when to use them. Ideas for activities are categorised both under the aspect development area e.g. character, setting, plot and the reading assessment focus.

Booklets for Y2-Y6 listing all the questions from the 2005 SATs and Optional SATs reading papers categorised under assessment focus areas. Also objectives for reading for KS1 and KS2 with suggested questions for each objective taken from the 2003-2005 SATs reading papers.
